BUX is Europe’s fastest growing neobroker. They’ve been making it easy and affordable for Europeans to do more with their money since 2014. By knocking down barriers and disrupting the investing experience, they’re helping new generations of investors and traders discover the world of the financial markets.
How are they doing this?
BUX’s flagship platform, BUX Zero, is making commission-free investing more accessible and allows users to invest in the companies they believe in. BUX Zero is currently available in the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Austria, France, Ireland and Belgium.
The full range of BUX products, including BUX Crypto and BUX X, are available across 10 countries in Europe. Headquartered in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, the company is backed by Prosus Ventures, Tencent, HV Capital, and Velocity Capital Fintech Ventures.
Crowdfunding, Seedrs and Bux’s Campaigns
BUX raised a total amount of €1.3m on Seedrs from over 2,000 investors back in 2018. The initial target of €1 million was surpassed within just 24 hours of their public launch!
The raise attracted 2,039 investors from their own community of BUXsters, as well as the crowd, who all clamoured to get in on the round. The round included the exact same terms and valuation as some of Europe’s leading VC’s. These investors came from 33 different countries, with the largest group coming from BUX’s home country of the Netherlands.
BUX’s crowdfund campaign followed the company’s successful €10.6 Series C round earlier that year, led by Germany’s Holtzbrinck Ventures, one of Europe’s most successful venture capital firms. Velocity Capital also supported the round together with a number of influential angel investors, including former Booking.com CMO Arthur Kosten and Thierry Schaap, co-founder of online brokerage firm BinckBank.
A crowdfunding round, on the back of this institutional funding, was to allow their most loyal users to invest in BUX and benefit from the growth of the company. Along with attracting new advocates for their brand who believed in what they were building.
After their crowdfunding campaign, BUX has seen amazing results and growth, currently being valued at €189M.
Why did you choose to work with Seedrs?
We wanted to use a platform to give our most loyal customers the opportunity to invest in the company they use for investing. So crowdfunding was the most logical choice. We chose Seedrs due to the level of professionalism, the support that they provided throughout the investment journey, and the reach that they have.
Seedrs is a trusted and well-established brand for crowdfunding which fit well with the BUX values. Next to this, the team at Seedrs was knowledgeable, experienced, and pragmatic. Exactly the things we were looking for in a partner.
We were delighted to reach our investment target within 24 hours of opening the round to the public, and are thrilled with the result of the total round. We’re overwhelmed by the interest we received and are excited to welcome the whole new team of investors, advocates, and hopefully users. We would like to say a huge thank you to the BUXsters and supporters who have recognised the potential of BUX; their dedication and support of the brand over the last three years is what has helped us get to where we are today. We continue to be committed to developing our products in order to improve and enhance their BUXster experience.BUX Founder & former CEO Nick Bortot
Life after their campaign
The proceeds of their crowdfunding campaign have helped BUX to further develop their app and roll it out across Europe in order to become the one-stop-shop for all investment interests. They’ve also launched new apps for long-term trading and cryptocurrency.
We heard you experienced an 80% increase in signups during the first raise, can we quote or use further data?
We’ve seen a strong uptick in signups during the Seedrs round, driven by the excitement that was created as part of the marketing campaign and the strong reach that Seedrs brought to the table.
Aside from the funds, what have been the long term benefits of your crowdfunding campaign?
Some long term benefits from the crowdfunding campaign are more sticky and loyal customers, together with good brand awareness, a strong reputation and trust.
