Openly confronting sexual health no longer carries the stigma it once did, and that’s thanks to the work of businesses like MysteryVibe

Co-founded by Dr. Soumyadip Rakshit, Shanshan XuCo-Founder and Robert Weekly in 2014, MysteryVibe’s range of award-winning devices helps keep the mystery in the bedroom after major life events like childbirth, menopause, cancer treatment or surgery. Take any one of these, and the sheer volume of the market speaks for itself. For example, by 2025, over 1 billion women worldwide will be experiencing menopause….that’s 12% of the global population facing physiological changes that will likely impact their sexual health.

We sat down with Soumyadip Rakshit to find out more about how the business got started.

MysteryVibe products are designed to help people recover from physical and mental trauma, how do they do that?

Sexual wellness is a key and often overlooked part of your physical and emotional health. MysteryVibe products go beyond sexual pleasure to offer targeted stimulation which can be used for pain relief, pelvic floor restoration, stimulation of blood flow, and erectile problems. Not to mention, sexual pleasure has a whole host of mental health benefits including increasing sexual confidence and boosting libido.

The platform is about more than just the devices themselves, what other resources do you provide users to educate them about sexual health?

We work closely with experts to research and create content that answers the common and not-so-common questions surrounding sex. Our goal is to be a catalyst for informed conversation around sexual health and wellness. For example, we recently partnered with Google to create a free sex education skillset called ‘Pleasure Finder’ on Google Assistant which is now available to over 1 billion devices worldwide. It’s important that people are able to access information without stigma or shame, and we’re ensuring that information is well within reach.

What other players are operating in or exploring this area and what is MysteryVibe’s USP?

There are a lot of great companies working in the space of sexual wellness, such as Dame Products, UnBound, SmileMakers and more. We like to think of this space as collaborative, not competitive, since the more people we can all collectively educate about the benefits of sexual wellness, the better the outcome for all of us.

In terms of our differentiation, we are the only company that combines scientific and medical research in the design and marketing of our products. We do this in order to combine the foundations of medical expertise with the friendliness that comes with delivering a pleasurable object.

What has your investment history looked like?

Prior to this round, we raised £5 million in seed capital from angel investors. This helped us conduct the R&D, studies and certifications needed to bring all 3 FDA II medical devices to market and into the hands of 50,000 users worldwide. Now, we are raising our Series A with the help of Seedrs to embark on the next stage of our business which will involve scaling our sales and marketing to put our devices into the hands of millions of people around the world.

What have been some major milestones for the business so far?

Two of our proudest moments have been crossing the 50,000 users milestone (in 65+ countries) and beating Apple Watch in winning the 2018 Design Week Awards. It’s not every day you get to rank above Apple.

What can we expect next from MysteryVibe in the way of product features, partnerships and more?

In the next 24 months we have 4 very exciting new devices coming to market. These will not only provide additional solutions to the sexual health issues addressed by our current devices, but will also tackle new topics like vulvodynia and vaginismus.

What’s the major learning from your past professional experience that carried over to MysteryVibe?

It’s not just what you know or who you know, it’s knowing who knows what.

If you had one piece of advice for people looking to take better care of their sexual health, what would it be?
