We have just updated the Seedrs platform with a few new features that we couldn’t wait to share with you. Our focus recently has been on speed and simplicity to make everything we do easier and faster for you.

Social sign in and join

We want to make it as easy and enjoyable as possible for you to start discovering and investing in great startups, so users can now access the Seedrs platform using existing LinkedIn, Facebook, Google or Twitter accounts. The process is very simple and you can take advantage of it even if you already have an account with us.

If you already have a Seedrs account but want to start signing in with your favourite social network login information, just go to the Seedrs sign in page and click the corresponding button. After authorising your Seedrs account to link to your social media account(s) of choice you should be automatically signed into your account. If you use a different email address for different accounts, we may ask you to sign in with your email address and password to associate your multiple accounts. It’s as simple as it gets.

Simpler sign up process

Now, everyone who signs up to Seedrs can browse startup campaigns before becoming an authorised investor – even entrepreneurs. To ask questions and invest you’ll need to complete the investor authorisation process, but now you get to peek at live campaigns before doing so.

Display name

We are regularly asked about the possibility of displaying a name on the Seedrs platform that is different from your full legal name. For example, being referred to as “Al” instead of “Alfred” or “Alex instead of Alexandra”.

This doesn’t mean you can now create anonymous usernames like “Superstud35” or “ButterflyQueen” because we need your full legal name to automatically generate all of the legal paperwork involved in making investments on our site. We also strongly believe that when dealing with equity investments, transparency of identity is extremely important in your interaction with other users.

It’s fine if you want to invest anonymously but it is not ok if people start trying to pass for someone else. We want to allow you to display a name that was not your exact legal name while still being a name that identifies you as a person and that’s related to your legal name.

To update your display name, simply go to your user profile, click on the “Display name” section and un-check the “Same as legal name” check box. Then, just enter the name you wish to use and “Save”. As soon as we approve that change you will then be referred to as that name on the platform.

Email preferences

And, users now have a new tab on their user profile page called “Email preferences”. On that tab you can now configure how often you want to receive startup update emails as well as which other emails you would like to receive. Some emails will still be sent in real time because they are either confirmations of actions you have taken on the platform or information that you need to act upon. We hope this makes it much easier to control when and how you hear from the team and startups you’ve invested in.
