We’re delighted to announce our recent partnership with The Office Group (TOG), one of the most creative and forward-thinking communities in the UK. In the startup world, there is a constant appetite for flexible workspaces to suit the needs of the evolving business practices, and TOG is at the frontier. 

We all know how important office space is to a company’s culture and growth, and we’re excited to be collaborating with one of the leaders in the market. When we hosted our inaugural Alumni Awards in September 2019, it was an easy choice for us to pick the lounge on the 24th floor of the iconic Shard, part of TOG offering. Our partnership with TOG will provide more opportunities for our Alumni to grow and for us a chance to engage with TOG members supporting them in their growth.

A Space Where Businesses Grow

TOG is in the business of changing the way we work. Reimagining how we spend our working day through its design-led office space across the UK and Germany, creating environments that businesses want to stay – and grow – in. 

It all started in 2003, when co-CEOs, Olly Olsen and Charlie Green started TOG with one building in Islington and one aim; to flip the serviced office model of short contracts and uninspiring spaces on its head. And with over 50 beautiful, architect-designed buildings later, it certainly has.  

The industry was modelled on getting people to sign up to spaces for nine months and then making money at every opportunity after that… but I couldn’t get my head around the idea of copying a business model that was already deeply flawed – a place people only wanted to be in the short-term. We wanted to flip the philosophy on the head. We thought: “Let’s get someone signed up for nine months and then work out how to make them stay.”

It arrived on the scene at a time when technology was already changing our working patterns, with breakout spaces and hot-desking becoming increasingly popular, and TOG was the only office space out there to really support this more flexible approach to working. 

Having already grown from one to seven buildings, there was a management buyout in 2010 by Travelex founder Lloyd Dorfman, before major investment by Blackstone in 2017 allowed TOG to grow even further to the 50 – and counting – buildings it has today.

Design-led Spaces That Nurture Growth

Firm believers that happy clients are good for business, TOG loves playing host to its people and wants them to stay by providing great value, a level of service that proves they care about your success and thoughtfully considering the design of each building. 

It’s the design element that has really set TOG apart from its competitors. By working very closely with a range of architects to look at each building as an individual, playing to its history and character, and to actually really think about how people will work there, TOG creates spaces that encourage and nurture the growth of the businesses within them. 

Every TOG building is different and tells its own story. From its newest offering – three floors of unique workspace in one of London’s most iconic buildings – One Canada Square, to the huge One Lyric Square in Hammersmith, with expansive views across west London, and with five new buildings set to open in Germany in 2020 (TOG’s first venture outside of the UK), there’s a TOG building for every business, no matter how big or small. 

Playing host to over 18,000 people running and working for businesses that range from 1-1,000 employees, startup and scale-up businesses especially thrive inside the walls of TOG. After all, TOG itself has grown from a one-building to fifty-building business, so it understands the environment required to think big and inspire growth.
